The myth is that aging brings on inevitable aches and pains. In fact we may even have the expectation that as we age we should a.) start to slow down and b.) we will have to discontinue our favorite activities because things are going to start to go wrong.

Somatics Education suggests that we have more control over the aging process than once thought, and that if we don’t keep learning and evolving as we grow older we will become habituated in our movements, and that it’s these habituations that eventually cause the aches and pains of old age. In fact this goes for any age where our bodies become “specialized” to certain movements and activities which leads to the “under-use” of different movement patterns and muscles (and the over-use of others). And, as the saying goes “use it or lose it.”

The “Myth of Aging” series of Somatic Exercises was developed by Thomas Hanna. The practice of Somatics is a mind/body system that re-educates our neuro-muscular pathways. Through slow, conscious exercises that stimulate the connections from our brains to our muscles an inner wisdom is awakened for some and developed for others.

The class will target specific areas of the body and focus on patterns of muscular contraction that lead to chronic tension and injury. Students learn how to decrease muscle and joint pain and stiffness, to become more optimal in any of life’s activities and to be less dependent on others in doing so.

Very useful in relieving Carpal Tunnel Syndrome, Frozen Shoulder Syndrome, Headaches, Back Pain and Strain, SI Joint Pain, Arthritis, Fibromyalgia, and more!

Jodi Christensen is a Somatics Educator, 500RYT Yoga Instructor, and Reiki Practitioner

Somatic Yoga and Awakened Wisdom Experiences this Saturday!

 Somatic Yoga
April 23rd, 9-11 am
$20 Registration Required. The class is appropriate for all fitness levels and offers a set of gentle exercises that you can do on your own at home. This is a medication-free way to prevent and alleviate pain, chronic tension, and stiffness. Most exercises will be done lying on the floor, with small amounts of walking and observing that can be modified for those with limitations.
From there we will progress to therapeutic yoga techniques, increasing load and movement. We will then progress to incorporating principles into classic Asana.
Each month we will look at a new area of the body. "Your words are like a song out to the Universe and the Universe responds according to the lyrics and the melody that is heard.
If your song is beautiful and life giving, the Universe is willing to reflect that back to you. Conversely, if your words are distorted and filled with fear or negativity, the Universe is just as likely to mirror distortion back. Now imagine the chorus of people around you and you start to see how important it is for us all to be discerning about the words we release." From Awakened Wisdom; A Guide to Reclaiming Your Brilliance by Patrick Ryan. I've often thought about this in the context of conversation with other people, but didn't quite put it in the context of the conversations I have with my self.
This morning I shared a story of a motor scooter accident I had last October. I ended up in the emergency room pretty scraped up, needing stitches, and a fractured bone below my eye. I shared with the class how I used meditation and Reiki to get me through the experience. I repeated my mantra over and over. They cleaned my road burns and gave me an EKG before giving me any pain medication. I repeated my mantra and it comforted me like an good friend. I spent the next several days in bed connecting with Reiki energy and repeating my mantra. By the 3rd day I was moving around easily and had a good amount of energy with the road rash mostly healed. By the 9th day I was back to teaching classes and feeling good with hardly any visible signs of my accident. I healed very quickly and I know it was because I chose to utilize Reiki and mediation.
I related this story because I felt it was a good example of a Good State of Intention. The intention being healing and comfort. It wasn't until it was pointed out how powerful the words we repeat to ourselves are that I related it to the conversations I have with my self. It was an a-ha moment! The intentional words I say to my self are very powerful...I get that. The unintentional words (conversations) I say to my self are just as powerful! Duh!
I'm pretty intentional about the words I speak to people. I practice being present and intentional frequently with others. I practice being present and intentional with my internal diologue in meditation and when teaching class but tend to leave the practice there. It's exciting and humbling to take a look around and see the manifestations of my unconscious internal dialogue! A-ha! "All that we are is the result of what we have thought. All we shall become is the result of what we think now." Buddha... intentionally and unintentionally!
Today I've decided to listen closely to the words I am saying inside my head, to the song I am singing to the Universe and when I start singing a song that doesn't tell a good story I exchange it for a new song, a new conversation, a new mantra. "I am brilliant!"
Try it and see what shows up! "I am _____________."
Namaste,
Jodi Christensen

Join me for the Reclaiming Your Brilliance Experience with Patrick Ryan.
April 1,2,3 in St. Paul.
Learn More

Yoga as Muse workshop

<img style="float:right; margin:0 0 10px 10px;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 200px; height: 74px;" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-VEGjSHFAHaM/TXzY3BemaXI/AAAAAAAAALA/2E6Dd1zUE_k/s200/yoga-as-muse.png" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5583576077833759090" />
The Four Preparations of Yoga as Muse™ with special guest Cat Holm, Certified Yoga Instructor, Licensed Yoga as Muse Facilitator, and Author.

April 9th, 9:30-12:30 pm, $45. This human carriage is pulled along by two horses, one of which is Divine Essence and the other Distorted. The reins of the carriage are in the hands of our self-awareness. It is through the journey that our Soul is developed." Patrick Ryan
I like this image. I find it useful in being in relationship with myself and others. Many times I have observed myself and others handing the reigns over to distorted and even kicking it's heels with shiny spurs. I have also observed in myself and others that we hand the reigns over to our Divine Essence with caution and only on rare occasions do we kick in the spurs and unabashedly ride with our Divine Essence. It's more like an uneasy trot.
When I was a kid I loved to ride horses with my dad. I remember the joy and excitement of riding while the horse was galloping and jumping over streams, and the contentment of a long, leisurely ride in the wilderness.
I've also experienced what it feels like to be on the back of a horse that is "spooked" or startled. Suddenly I was very aware how large and powerful this animal was and how much it would hurt if I were bucked off. In that moment I had two choices, to give total control over to the spooked beast and feed into his fear or to use my human facilities to regain control and calm the horse down. A trained horse will respond to their riders commands and energy. They have the ability to switch from distortion to Divine Essence very quickly.
As you ride through your week, notice which horse has the reigns. If it's Divine take it slow and enjoy the ride and from time to time kick in the spurs!
Jodi Christensen

"You are the architect of your life."

I am co-facilitating an Awakened Wisdom Teleclass that began 2 weeks ago. Over the next 8 weeks I am going to blog about the explorations we ask of the group. I invite you to share part of this journey with us through these blogs.
Take a moment to consider this statement... "You are the architect of your life." Swami Rama
As we open ourselves up more and more to the Wisdom Field and pay attention to signs that inform us as we sculpt and build our tomorrows, this statement becomes more powerful.
In Patrick Ryan's book Awakened Wisdom, A Guide to Reclaiming Your Brilliance he says "The life you are living today is the result of seeds you planted in the past, and it goes that in this moment, today, you are seeding the future according to your intentions, words, and actions. Understanding the blessing of this rather than getting too significant about it all will allow you to accept this idea with grace, ease, and delight."
This week I've been holding the question...What does it mean to be co-creating your journey? I get exited knowing I am supported by the wisdom field. Knowing that when I feel overwhelmed or stuck, I can tap into the wisdom field and connect to what the Universe is calling forth.
As I've held this question over the past week I've been struck by how often my intentions and expectations are incongruent. For example, I intend that I will attract students that will benefit from my teachings, then catch myself expecting that no one will come to class. And guess what, I've given more power to my expectation than my intention and I get to witness how I've sculpted an empty class. Co-creating my journey calls on me to be more aware of my minute to minute thoughts and choose which seeds I will cultivate and which ones I will let go.
I welcome your comments... What does co-creating your journey mean to you?
If you would like to learn more about Awakened Wisdom opportunities please visit our website deeppeaceduluth.com
Jodi Christensen

The Earth is Hiring!

I am reading an amazing, thought provoking book right now,Hope Beneath Our Feet: Restoring Our Place in the Natural World by Martin Keogh. He posed a question to the world, "In a time of environmental crisis, how can we live right now?". The book is a collection of diverse responses to that question.

One of my favorites was written by Paul Hawken, a renowned entrepreneur, visionary environmental activist and author of many books. He shared a commencement address that he created for the Class of 2009 at University of Portland. He was asked to write something that was "direct, naked, taut, honest, passionate, lean, shivering, startling and graceful". He did just that and more.

I can't get through it without crying as it is filled with so much hope, bubbling over with the great potential that exists for all of us, for the planet. It is a recognition of all the good things people are doing around the world, it is a call for action. He states, "There is invisible writing on the back of your diploma...it says: you are brilliant and the earth is hiring. The earth did not send recruiters, instead it sent sunsets, rain, ripe cherries, night-blooming jasmine...and here's the deal: forget that this task of planet saving is not possible in the time required. Don't be put off by people who know what is not possible. Do what needs to be done, and check to see if it was impossible only after you are done."

The last couple of days have been filled with election stories, victories for some, feelings of great loss for others and a complete disconnect for the rest. I am filled with a sense of wonder and curiosity. Change always happens, everyday there are shifts, some not obvious or noted by us. What will this one mean? It may seem like business as usual within our local, state and national governments. Perhaps the same road blocks, same arguments. Perhaps we move forward, perhaps we move backwards, perhaps things come to a pivotal point where we wake up to the need for radical change and collectively make it happen or not.

Regardless of how you feel about the last election and the role of government in our lives, you must know that there is one race that continues on. There are still seats to be filled in the Earth Office. We are all qualified to serve, will you serve the earth with me? Let's enjoy her, respect her, remember our connection with her. Celebrate her, honor her. Walk with her, listen to her, speak with her, speak for her, protect her, nurture her, appreciate her. See her as healthy and well in every way, make sure we are healthy and well in every way. There is no separation. It is time.

Humming for Healing

I have found myself humming a lot these days. Humming during meditation, humming when I am happy and humming when I am sad. Humming while my child has a meltdown and afterwards to calm myself down! It feels good. Try it, right now. Go ahead. It's just you and your computer screen. Experiment with it a bit. Hum high and hum low. Notice how your body feels as you do so. Allow a more nasal quality to come through your hum tones. Can you feel the vibration increase in your head, in your body as you do that? Allowing a more nasal quality to come forth is a wonderful way to stave off a head cold or sinus infection. It really opens up the sinuses and allows for energy to move, clearing the sinuses in the process.

Your body is a resonating chamber. We actually restore a sense of calm when we hum, we ground ourselves in our humming. No wonder so many parents hum as they rock their babes to sleep. Recent research shows that humming promotes: wound healing, dilation of blood vessels, collagen production and a release of oxytocin, also known as the trust hormone.

We all have a hum and tones that make up our song. Our personal harmonic symphony. Some spiritual teachers share that our hum, our song connects us to our divinity. I know I have felt that during meditation and I have sensed shifts in my perspective when I allow myself to hum instead of "react" to life's curve balls. It seems a little silly at first, but then so are my tantrums. I prefer simple tools like humming to help me shift my perspective in a moment. Give it a try. If anything, it will make you smile and that's a beautiful thing!

I Will Not Die and Unlived Life~ Dawna Markova

I am writing today with the intention of posting to the Deep Peace Wellness blog for the first time. I have never read a blog nor written one. Yet, the opportunity to reflect on my journey and share those reflections seems attractive to me.

I can't find the email in which Erin asked Jodi and I to write but I think she asked us to write about what has been motivating and sustaining us throughout the past summer. Keeping it simple I want to share a few thoughts which have been stimulated by a quote I have been carrying from Dawna Markova in her book “I will not die and unlived life” . She says- “I need to give my attention to the simple things that give me pleasure with the same fervor I have been giving it to the complex things with which I drive myself crazy.”

How much time do I spend on a daily basis rehashing the same obsessive thoughts and ideas? Do I come up with any original ideas? Do I come up with any concrete actions? Much more likely, I come up with nothing other than reinforcement for the tension in my shoulders.

Markova's words challenge me to ask myself -what is juicy in my life? What is there that gives me pleasure? Daring to ask these questions of myself I open to the possibility of new ideas, maybe even dangerous actions. Dangerous in the sense that they may take me out of my everyday obsessive, compulsive, you can't make me enjoy my life rut!

Care to join Gary in the challenge? Let us know what comes forward for you...

Grandmother's Gathering for Gitchigaaming on Madeline Island

I take a deep breath as I think and feel for where to start in sharing about this remarkable experience. Remarkable doesn't do justice, no words really can and yet I am compelled to make an effort as it is to be shared.

Forty-eight Elder women from 12 states gathered on Madeline Island August 12th-15th in appreciation of Gitchigaaming (Lake Superior) and in celebration of Elder Women wisdom. Ah, I am sighing again. Those of you who participated understand why. The experience touched a very deep place in our hearts, in our spirits. Moved us at our very core. It was beautiful, they were beautiful, the Lake was beautiful, the community that attended the Inter-generational Day were beautiful. I think you are catching on...

We gathered in intimate talking circles each day where we focused our intention and attention on our connection with Lake Superior (and or other sacred bodies of water that were precious to us), our connection with the water within our bodies and how water is the life force connecting all of us with one another and the earth. We expressed our appreciation for one another and The Lake through the process of Gifting. We visited Lake Superior everyday, each day in a different way. We engaged in sacred ceremony and we listened. We listened. We listened. We listened to one another, to the earth, to the water. We listened to the water, we loved the water, we held her and she us. And we shared the wisdom gifted to us with one another and the community of people that gathered on the Inter-generational day. Something big happened that day and each day we gathered, something big is still happening and it is vitality, it is joy, it is truth, it is beauty, it is cooperation, it is love, it is love, it is love.

Please join me at the Duluth Holistic Health Expo at the DECC in October where I will share in greater detail the impact this gathering had on me and on others, the wisdom that came forward during the Inter-generational day and the gifts that continue to unfold in the wake of the wave that we co-created with Lake Superior, with the Earth, Spirit and our hearts. Discover the power of your thoughts, words, feelings and intention and how you can put them into service for your greatest good and for that of the water. I can't believe how quickly summer has flowed. Do you feel that too? It has been incredible! I experienced so much personal growth and transformation. I feel like the plant growing in my kitchen. It is sooo very tall right now, one of its branches boldly reaching ever higher. Okay, beginning to sound like Star Trek, but seriously that is how I feel. Why? I think a great deal has to do with the people I have met this summer and the experiences that we shared. Remember back in July~ I invited you to join me in the 2010 Day of Toning for Personal and Planetary Healing? Did you have a chance to do that? If so, please respond with your experience, I'd love to hear from you.

For those of you who missed that invite, I engaged in a 9 Day Sound Healing Intensive this summer in Loveland Colorado with Sound Healing Master Jonathan Goldman and 90 spectacular beings from 14 countries. It was amazing! The Day of Toning occurred midway through our training. We really worked our way up to this day, preparing emotionally, mentally, spiritually and physically without even knowing we were doing so- yeah, Jonathan is that good. We began each day at 7am with meditation and toning and we did not end our day until 10 pm. I am buzzing just thinking about it! We really co-created a strong net of light for one another and our planet.

The night before our Day of Toning, several of us joined Jim Albani, Day of Toning Mastermind, in helping to prepare the space. Ready for this all of you Gregg Bradden and Quantum Physics fans, Jim had created life size sacred geometrical forms that participants could sit inside of and meditate. I have to say that I was blown away by each of them, they really held their own unique essence and within them, I journeyed deep and went places that I have never been. But, what really transformed our space was the creation of a Vesica Pisces out of dried corn kernels. A Vesica Pisces is a form created from 2 concentric circles, it is a sacred formation that is found in several spiritual and religious traditions around the world.

On the Day of Toning, we all entered the room cleansed by sage and our intention. We committed, before entering, to surrender our emotional blocks to spirit, to trust the process and share in gratitude for the experience and for all things. We essentially committed to making room for more love and light to flow through us not only for our own personal healing, but for a greater purpose~ for planetary healing. And the thing is, everyone of us~ 90 diverse individuals from around the world had offered a cosmic YES! when they committed to attending the Intensive, their cosmic YES! was for that greater purpose, it was for the planet. It was a YES! to this evolutionary impulse that, on that day especially, was driving our very being. And with our toning the heart chakra vowel sound "Ah" for 12 continuous hours, with this intention of surrender, trust and gratitude partnered with the visualization of a planet that was healthy and well in every way, we co-created magic together.

If you have never been in a room with 90 people toning love from their hearts for 12 hours, well~ the best I can do with words is state that it was like being in a room full of angels singing. The harmonics and overtones that were created lifted us and the earth in a dynamic flow of light. It was the closest feeling I have ever had to unity consciousness. I did not know everyone's story and in the space we co-created, we let go of our stories and allowed truth to flow. I can't talk about it without tears and apparently I am unable to write about it without tears too. Phew... I opened in my awareness a new sense of possibility for humanity. If this group of 90 people, speaking different languages, with different belief systems and faiths could co-create such an incredible experience together in such a short time, what could we do if even 10,000 people embraced the sacred vowel sounds and created a practice of toning them for their personal transformation and for that of the planet? I have shivers all over, as I know it is possible!

I will be sharing some of Jonathan's teachings and my experiences with toning in an Introduction to Toning the Sacred Vowel Sounds Workshop in November. Details coming soon. Come and explore with me!

Want to join others in toning or learn about how the 2009 Day of Toning affected Global Consciousness? I traveled with my husband of 4 friends . No one had cell phone or watch! For 16 days I allowed myself time to just be, with no concept of time or "shoulds" that occupy my daily thoughts. Without any concept of time I found myself more present in my experiences. Some days I would wake at the crack of dawn by the loud sounds of the rain forest and other days I would sleep soundly into the early afternoon soothed and lulled into a deep sleep by the same loud rain forest birds and rain.
At my last Yoga Teacher Training at Yoga North we were given the homework assignment of being the observer of our life rather than the doer. The timing was perfect! With no other obligations other than watching myself create my reality I was able to grow the awareness of my True Self that lies within. One foundation of Yogic thought is Satya or Truthfullness. In Deborah Adele's book The Yama's and Niyama's, Exploring Yoga's Ethical Practice she explains that when we silence and distort ourselves, we begin to lose our lust for life and look for other things to fulfill us. That by living the life that cries to be lived from the depth of our being frees up a lot of energy and vitality. Suppressing our True Self and that life takes a lot of our life energy just in the managing of the pretending.
I think of my niece who can't help but start dancing and shaking when ever she hears a song with good groove. She's not concerned with what others will think or how she'll look, she just moves freely and happily. She's only two years old, and I think how wonderful it would be if we all stayed in touch with our Self like her.
I got very curios on this trip of what would happen if I just let my true essence loose, rather than trying to mold it into something I've been taught "should" be. What I found is that I'm really good at molding myself and letting my True Self shine through takes a lot of observation. I also found that when I would allow my Self to shine I was free of a lot of second guessing and discontent which allowed more time for enjoyment and content.
"Trust yourself, then you will know how to live." Goethe. I've always like this quote but never really understood it's depth until I started allowing myself to trust myself.
I encourage you to play with this idea for the next week. Every time you hear yourself say "should" or someone says it to you, take pause to contemplate and observe. It's pretty fun!

Namaste,
Jodi

Valentine's Day ~ Give love

"For love's the greatest healer to be found." Willie Nelson

Valentine's Day is here! The day we spread love far and wide expressing our admiration for those who bring joy to our lives.
Love is the foundation for Reiki and Quantum-Touch healing. When we think of those people who enrich our lives or remember fond memories that make us smile we are filled with love. Thinking positive thoughts heightens your immune system by causing the nervous system to shift into the healing/rest response and out of the stress response.
Healing begins with our thoughts and contributes greatly to how we feel daily. To play with this awareness try the following exercise. Find a quiet place where you can sit for 5 minutes. Close your eyes and begin breathing in and out through your nose. Think about what you're grateful for. Notice how you feel, soaking in the sensations for a couple of minutes. Then think of stressors in your life. Just do this for a minute, and notice how you feel. Then end by feeling gratitude again! What did you notice? How did you feel?
If you would like to learn more join us for Community Meditations. We explore the power of our thoughts, learn relaxation and meditation techniques that can support you in enjoying better health, happiness, and vitality. The world will be watching or listening to the historic event of Barack Obama being inaugurated as the 44th President of the United States. He faces many great opportunities ahead.
While you are watching this event with others around our great country and earth, we encourage you to listen with and open heart and open mind.
Community seems to be a prominent call in our lives, our city, and our country right now. As we move forward with our new leaders let us do so as a community. Sacrifices must and will be made. Change will and needs to be made by all of us. As citizens of this great country and city we need to step up to the plate and support our leaders by pitching in and doing our part.
Gandhi said "Be the change you wish to see in the world." Next time you find yourself and others around you evaluating the choices our leaders are making, we encourage you to think about this simple, yet profound statement. Now is the time to come together and support our leaders. Positive change takes a community.
To our fearless leaders President Obama and Mayor Ness, we support you in your challenging opportunities and offer our support, as we know you hold the greatest good of our community in your heart.

Giving back...

This is a picture of my sister's kids. Collin (left), Eliana, and Alec (right). My sister and her husband adopted Collin from Romania. He lived in an orphanage for the first 3 years of his life. He had a pretty rough beginning to his life. I had the great fortune to go with my sis to Romania to bring Collin home. I saw the orphanage where he once lived. It was heart breaking. They are grossly under staffed. They use 2 wash cloths for all the children. One to wipe all their faces and one to wipe all their bums. There is not enough staff to hold the babies and they're often left in their cribs all day. Romania is a very poor country with extremely limited resources for the thousands of forgotten children. My sister's family gave Collin the gift of a loving family, food, and opportunity he never would have experienced otherwise. We are so blessed to have Collin in our lives. Every time I think of Collin I'm reminded of this, but can't help to think of all the many, many children left behind. Millions of children that will never know a loving touch, a parent or mentor to help them make their way in this complicated world, left to fend for themselves without any skills, support, or family. Opportunity will never exist in their vocabulary. I look at Collin and see a young boy with the world at his finger tips. I can't help to think of the thousands of children I saw begging in the streets in Bucharest for any kindness someone might give so they can put some food in their empty belly or scavenge for some shoes to protect their feet through the long winter.

My mom gave Collin a pair of snow boots for his first Christmas with our family. He opened the package and hugged the boots! Then he put them on elated and content. Of course, not thinking of or looking for the many other packages under the tree with his name on them. Meanwhile the other cousins were opening and discarding package after package. That was one of the many lessons in gratitude that Collin has taught our family. He still carries this innate gratitude with him today, always showing unconditional appreciation and love to us.

Have I tugged on your heart strings enough? Consider giving to a charity for those less fortunate. If you would like to learn more about how to help the children in Romania I encourage you to visit http://www.bridgeoflove.net/ This is a foundation to help Orphans in Romania. My sister personally knows the people who run this foundation. So be comforted knowing that your money truly does reach your chosen child. Often we think of little ones, but there are so many teenagers that need help too! So, so many.

A few years ago we decided among some good friends of ours to sponsor a child through a charity rather than give each other gifts. We've been doing this for 3 years now. It's amazing how much we've been able to help another with our money and at the same time relieve some of the holiday giving stress.

This year my husband's family has decided to do the same thing. Rather than buying gifts for each other, we're taking the money we would have spent on each other and donating to a crisis nursery in Arizona where my sister-in-law works. I've found that this has started some great conversations of gratitude in the family, and again, I don't have to waste hours wondering among items produced in China figuring out which one to purchase for them.

In this time, when people are talking recession and how hard things have been it's a great reality check. Sure money is more tight than in the past, but I never have to think about how I'm going to put food on the table or figure out how to get through the winter with out shoes! Next time your in a big department store trying to figure out what to buy those on your list that don't need anything, consider this option. There are so many in need locally and globally.

If this doesn't quite speak to you then give of your time.

And the race is on...

Christmas is on it's way. I guess in many ways it's already here. For the days leading up to the big day we would like to share with you some holiday gift giving ideas that cost little to nothing monetarily, and hopefully mean quite a bit to the loved one's in your life.

In my family we have a tradition we call the 12 days of Christmas. Twelve days before the 25th we choose a person or family in the community and leave an anonymous gift for them each day until Dec. 25th.

Yes, this can be an investment if you choose. It's really fun to get creative and not spend a lot of money. How about baking or giving a nice loaf of bread, or any kind of food? Other ideas I like are poems or inspiring quotes, pictures, socks, scarves, gloves, a journal, or playing cards. There are so many ideas. If you have kids, then your craft options are endless.

I love this, because it is so much fun to be sneaky and watch your chosen receivers ponder over who in the world is thinking of them. I find that the actual gift doesn't really matter. The fact that someone is thinking of them means the very most.

Maybe you don't want to commit to 12 days. Maybe one day suits you better or a random act of kindness. Maybe you go to a rest home one day and give out hugs! That's a good one! The possibilities are as endless as joy you and your receiver will feel.

I remember one time I was walking through the parking lot to a grocery store and a person that appeared to be homeless passed in front of me and his bag of belongings broke, so I gave him my canvas grocery bags. The bewilderment on his face was great.

May your heart be filled with kindness in this giving season.

Jodi

Hands that shape humanity

Ok, I admit it; I've fallen for Archbishop Desmond Tutu. It all started when Bono sang about of him. I thought, "Who is this guy? If Bono feels the need to sing about him then I want to know more!" Thank you, Bono.

Then years (dare I say a decade) later, I was looking at pictures of Dr. Emoto's water crystals and I found the photo of the word Ubuntu (a previous blog.) When I googled Ubuntu, Desmond Tutu's name came up. My interest was piqued again.

Later, I'm searching through the Iconoclast series (Sundance Channel) and I see there's an episode with Desmond Tutu and what's his name (Richard Branson, a really incredible guy too). I watched and was captivated by Desmond Tutu. He is playful, joyful, and so cute, and I just want to hug him! He lives his truth. He lives the art of letting go, while living intentionally, responsibly, and for the greater good of everyone! He's got it goin' on!

Tonight I decided to google Desmond (so much better than TV), which led me to http://www.handsthatshapehumanity.org/. This is one of the most incredibly beautiful, artistic, and fun positive intent project I've seen. Their message displayed reads "If there is only one message of wisdom you could leave behind for humanity, what would it be?" Hmmm, thought provoking.

I invite you all to ponder this question and the word Ubuntu this holiday season. Consider giving your time, attention, and love. The most precious gifts aren't objects. Recession can never include acts of kindness or Ubuntu. In fact, the more Ubuntu you give, the more there is! What an exciting thought!

I hope you all give plenty of Ubuntu this year and catch the Tutu fever!

In peace,

Jodi

Ubuntu

The word Ubuntu is Dr. Emoto's featured water crystal right now. Ubuntu is defined as the ethic or humanist philosophy focusing on people's allegiance and relations with each other. It is a word derived from Africa.

I love this picture of Archbishop Desmond Tutu and Nelson Mandela, as well as their definitions of Ubuntu...

Desmond Tutu describes Ubuntu by stating that a person with Ubuntu is open and available to others, affirming of others, does not feel threatened that others are able and good, for he or she has proper self-assurance that comes from knowing that he or she belongs in a greater whole and is diminished when others are humiliated or diminished, when others are tortured or oppressed.

Nelson Mandela says Ubuntu is when a traveller through a country would stop at a village and he didn't have to ask for food or water. Once he stops, the people give him food, entertain him. Ubuntu does not mean that people should not address themselves. The question therefore is ~Are you going to do so in order to enable the community around you to be able to improve?

What thought provoking philosophies. Together we, twenty-eight women and one gentleman, embraced our connection with one another, the earth and spirit through meditation, breathing, sound, dance, chanting and drumming. The sacred space we created through our intention and love was very powerful. I really had no expectation going into the workshop. The power of sound in healing keeps coming up in my meditations and sessions with clients and I knew I needed to explore that more. So, I opened myself up to expansion and clarity.

Several participants had cathartic healing responses during our meditations and ceremony. It was an honor to hold the place for them as they let go and allowed their light to shine brightly, to heal. I thought, well, this is cool. However, I was a bit surprised that I did not feel as connected to the process as the other participants did. But, I knew I was supposed to be there, so I let go of judgement and continued to be present. Then it hit me like a lightening bolt striking my heart center, opening me up to the universe and reminding me of my purpose, no joke! This happened when Luzclara briefly spoke about her country, Chile, and the intensity of her life through years of living in the face of fear, fascism and the whims of dictators. As she spoke, my heart opened more and the tears flowed. She spoke of Pinochet and the the violence of his leadership, the men and women who were imprisoned for speaking their truth, others that were murdered or disappeared. She spoke of her discovering the power of prayer and intention and how it transformed her anger into love. She spoke of how her sisters, 3,500 of them, came together for one week with one intention. They, through the power of sound, intention and love, would pray that Pinochet would leave without bloodshed. They drummed, cried, healed, danced, chanted, ate, celebrated life, sent thoughts of love, peace and harmony out to the universe for 5 days straight. There were no cries of "down with Pinochet" or battle cries, only chants, thoughts of love and peace. Then they went their separate ways. But, continued to hold the intention in their hearts and thoughts. Within 2 weeks, Pinochet upset our government and long story short, an election was demanded and the people voted him out and he left without bloodshed. This occurred 3 months after the women concluded their ceremony.

I was riveted. I was crying heavily and there was an understanding in my heart. This was the story that I was to hear that day, this was what I was to bring home with me. Luzclara awoke in me, with her story, a need to be more responsible, a need to lead without fear, to help make the change we so desperately need on our planet and to wake up and step up to my purpose.

Whoa...was I up to it (fear talking again!)? Where do I begin? I drove home in silence and listened to my heart and mind formulate ideas, letting them come and go without judgement and fear. It was no surprise to me that when I checked our blog for entries last night that Jodi had also found herself in a place of wanting to hold a place of peace during this election time. I told you that we often come up with ideas at the same time, finish each others sentences....I love that!

We have decided to hold the space for our community to collectively set an intention of a peaceful and fair election process and for the safety of our newly elected leaders as they go forth in service to the greatest good of our planet and its people, restoring balance and harmony. Can you see it now, can you feel it, breath it? Ahhhhh...

Check back in a couple days for details on how you can join us, be empowered during this election process and help to create a peaceful planet!

In peace and light, Erin

Please vote

We are in full swing of the election season... just in case you've missed this somehow.

Is it just me or do the campaigns seem more negative than usual this year? I'm turned off more than ever by the candidates this year (yes, even the one's I support). So, so disheartened am I! Their ads are all about how bad the other guy is. Why don't they just tell us what they stand for and what they're going to do if elected? Worse yet, we all get wrapped up in this. It's challenging not to.

In this time, when negative campaign ads run as rampant as bunnies on park point, let's all focus on sending positive thoughts to our political leaders. Now I know that this can require a significant shift in thinking. Just don't get wrapped up in who you want to win or who you want to see go down. Focus on the idea of political leaders that have our country, state, (and while we're at it, world's) highest good as their agenda. I personally don't care so much if they're Democrats, Republicans, or Independents. Who actually knows "Joe" and has his/our best interest in their heart? Is their anyone out there???

Meditate for peace, honest politicians, qualified leaders.
Please do your part and cast your informed vote during this important upcoming election. He gets it. He understands the importance of words and thoughts. He decided to create a positive line of t-shirts called Happy Space Positive Wear. They're so cool! Become an observer of this theory, and you'll find it to be true, and if you choose, to serve you.

Be mindful of your thoughts. You might be surprised by how your internal dialogue reflects the life you live. What's your joy factory? Do you have one? If not, start building one today- in your mind, where it all begins. They always looked so fun to me!

A few years ago, I decided I was going to focus on a way to get a scooter- not just any scooter- a Vespa.
So half joking, I decided to set my intent on owning a Vespa scooter. About a month later a new grocery store opened up next to one of our Papa Murphy locations. So I went over to the grand opening celebration and put my name in a drawing for a wave runner. I didn't want a wave runner. I never have had much interest in them, but I love to win things!
Well, about 10 minutes later, a friend of mine who was in charge of the drawing came over to our store to tell me I was the proud owner of a shiny new wave runner! "Awesome," I thought to myself, "I just won a Vespa!"
Well, I sold that wave runner (having never used it.) With the money I received from the wave runner I was able to walk into the Vespa store in Minneapolis and choose whatever scooter I wanted! What a cool feeling, to be able to walk into a store and pick out your dream ride!
I feel on top of the world when I'm riding Vito. (That's his name. I named him after the Godfather, because Vespa's are made in Italy, and as you can see from the picture, my scooter is obviously the godfather of all scooters!) I love feeling the breeze on my face, and taking in all the scents of summer time in Duluth. I think of my scooter rides when I meditate. It's a great anchor to invoke feelings of love and joy.
Dreams really can come true! Try attracting something you've always wanted into your life! What do you have to lose? Hang a picture of your dream car or the Caribbean somewhere where you'll look at it daily. Then think and feel how fun it will be to experience the joy and satisfaction of having that thing in your life! Remember the feeling part of the meditation is key! If I can make it happen, so can you!
Follow your bliss,
Jodi

This picture was taken by Nate Lindstrom. He's a very talented and creative photographer in Duluth. He puts water in a dish, then writes a word on a piece of paper and places it beneath the dish. He then freezes the water and takes a picture of the water crystal. Every crystal is Unique! This is picture of "I can do it." "Beautiful" is quite beautiful, and guess what "hate" looks like. "Try" is only partially formed. He has several books out and is featured on the movie "What the bleep do we know." A movie everyone should see. And by everyone I mean everyone!

Our internal and external dialogue creates our reality. What do you say to yourself when you look in the mirror or face life's challenges? Next time say "I am beautiful" or "I can do it." Think "Peace" rather than "No War." That is where change begins.

At our last community meditation we spent time thinking about all the things in our life we are grateful for. Thoughts of chocolate filled the room with smiles. Then we spent time thinking of our dreams... that trip you've always wanted to take, that career change you long for, slowing down, looking for agates on Lake Superior. Feeling how it would feel to have those become reality.

Richard Gordon the founder of Quantum-Touch suggests that when you think about what you would like to have, create, or change, think about all the consequences of the new reality. If you want to live in a different home, think of all the consequences of being there. Is it comfortable to have that extra space and beauty around you, the ease, comfort and convenience?

The trick is to feel completely at peace with the consequences of what you wish to have in your new reality. Live in the vibration of the consequences of that success and you will find that reality will flow in your direction far more fluidly.

I have a peaceful, easy feeling about the consequences of knocking the wall out between my kitchen and living room.

I've been a devout fan of U2 ever since I saw them on MTV playing on a rooftop in NYC. My favorite quote of all time and personal mantra is from the genius Bono-

"This is your future. The only limits our the limits of your imagination. Dream of the kind of world you want to live in. Dream out loud in a high volume. That's what we do for a living."

Maybe it's the Irish accent I find so inspiring. Either way it sounds like a good idea to me. Bono's full of good ideas!

Winston was on to something...

One minute each night during WWII and advisor to Churchill organized a group of people who dropped what they were doing every night at a prescribed hour for one minute to collectively pray for the safety of England, its people and peace. This had an amazing effect as bombing stopped.

There is now a group of people organizing the same thing her in America. If you would like to participate: Each evening at 9:00 Eastern, 8:00 Central, 7:00 Mountain, 6:00 Pacific, stop whatever you're doing and spend one minute meditating for people around the world, the people of the United States, for peace in the world, and the upcoming election.

We can do it!

In Peace,

Jodi

Techno Storms

My brain feels like it has been pan fried.
